In organizing this interesting conference, we will talk about climate change and ocean acidification which amplify the impact of other threats attributable to human activity, such as overfishing and the destruction of marine habitats.
This could mean the end of at least 25% of biodiversity in the sea, but also the loss of fishing opportunities and significant consequences for many productive sectors, such as tourism.
Among the objectives identified by the 2030 Agenda there is one, which we would like to highlight, i.e. the Sustainable Development Goal 14, which aims at the protection and conservation of the oceans and marine life, essential resources for human societies as they provide important and diverse ecosystem services.
The primary objective is: to provide knowledge on the natural and anthropic mechanisms that can lead to the alteration of marine ecosystems, and to understand the potential repercussions on their functioning, to evaluate the environmental criticalities connected to human activities, to indicate and evaluate the potential solutions to mitigate their consequences.
Furthermore, the interventions will try to verify the tools to know and understand the physical modeling processes of the coastal areas with soft bottom, in order to be able to acquire interpretation skills with management and conservation and protection purposes.
